Ningaloo Reef Dive has operated in Coral Bay for over 20 years. Two years ago, we were given the opportunity to purchase and operate the business. As a member of the Coral Bay community for 19 years it has always been our goal to be in position to preserve, protect and educate our guests on the Ningaloo Reef. As a part of this objective, we aim to be a leader in recycling, conservation, and education within the local community.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
Our team is committed to reducing negative effects and making a positive impact on the environment and community.
We will do this by:
- Composting our waste and source our food for our tours within 150kms of Coral Bay.
- Working with Traditional Owners to improve our understanding of First Nations cultures.
- Regularly reviewing and updating our sustainability action plan and assessing our risks and performance each year.
- When purchasing new equipment, we will source the best suppliers with the latest in energy-saving ratings.
- We are working with suppliers to reduce single use plastic and commit to using suppliers that share our commitment to reducing plastic packaging and unsustainable production of their products.
Current Initiatives
Recycling
We have partnered with five major organisations to combat the lack of recycling in Coral Bay:
- Carbon Positive Australia – we have partnered with Carbon Positive Australia to offset our carbon footprint by contributing to planting native trees within Australia.
- Terracycle – through the purchase of Terracyle boxes we are recycling soft plastics and hard plastics.
- Planet Ark – ink cartridge recycling.
- Containers for Change – recycling of cans, glass bottles and plastic bottles. Monies received through this initiative go towards purchasing and expanding our Terracyle program.
- Lids for Kids – recycling plastic bottle tops.
Boomerang Bags
We have reusable and returnable bags for our guests to utilise for shopping within the local community.
Cardboard and Paper Recycling
We have a designated area specifically laid out for the purpose of providing a faster breakdown of cardboard and paper. This area has proved popular with our local echidnas as it breaks down and encourages termites to assist with the process.
Composting
We have compost bins on our vessel for approved food and packaging that can be composted.
